The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is a second-level school of Foshan University, with a first-level master’s degree authorization program in mechanical engineering. The school offers three undergraduate majors in mechanical design manufacturing and automation, mechanical and electrical engineering, and vehicle engineering. In recent years, the school has made remarkable achievements in the development of disciplines, majors and academic platforms. The discipline of mechanical manufacturing and automation has been approved as a key discipline of Guangdong Province. The major of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation is a featured major of Guangdong Province and a pilot for provincial-level comprehensive reform on academic majors. In March 2018, it was among the first majors in Foshan University that passed the IEET accreditation. Currently, the school is working to apply for a doctoral program in mechanical engineering.
Teaching force
The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering has introduced a large team of young professionals holding doctoral degree from renowned institutions of higher learning at home and abroad. Such a move helps to optimize the teaching structure, and reinforce the teaching force. The school has developed a well-structured team of lecturers with high academic qualifications, and strong teaching and research capabilities. At present, the school boasts 60 academic backbones, of which 11 are with senior professional titles, 16 with junior professional titles, 47 lecturers with doctoral degree, and 25 master supervisors.
Professional platform construction
The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering focuses its priorities on traditionally competitive industries in Foshan such as ceramics, home appliances, aluminum profiles and intelligent equipment. Further, it has carried out fruitful research on the design and manufacture of ceramic and aluminum profiles, advanced robot technology and application, arc additional material manufacturing, and new energy vehicles among others. The school has a key laboratory of modern ceramics and aluminum profile equipment of Guangdong higher education institutions. Since 2015, the school has won the approval for 5 provincial engineering technology research centers, including Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Intelligent Manufacturing Equipment, and Guangdong Advanced Robot Technology and Application Center. In addition, it has 5 provincial-level teaching platforms, such as Guangdong Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Education Center.
Talent training model
With over 90 school-enterprise cooperation projects and more than 20 student practice bases, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering actively explores the reform of the talent training model under the new engineering education environment. In December 2016, the school established the Robot Industry College, jointly with the Numerical Control Research Institute of Guangdong University of Technology and Guangdong Jaten Robot & Automation Co., Ltd., under the model of “university + research institute + leading enterprise”. In the meantime, the school develops the students’ practical and innovative abilities by establishing the Machinery Innovation Association, Robot Association, and Automobile Association.
