The School of Humanities and Education

The School of Humanities and Education of Foshan University was established in February 2016. It was formed by the combination of the former School of Liberal Arts , School of Education Sciences and the Sports School. The newly-established school consists of the Chinese Department, the Foreign Languages Department, the Department of Educational Information And Technology, the Department of Pre-school Education, the Department of Public Sports , the Department of Public English, and the Public Art Teaching and Research Office. There are 171 faculty members (167 are include in the Teacher Preparation programs and 4 are senior teachers), including 149 full-time teachers, among which 12 are full-time professors, 48 are associate professors, and 26 are doctors.


The school now offers four undergraduate majors: Chinese language and literature, English, educational technology, and preschool education. In September 2015, the school began to enroll graduate students in education. At present, there are threedisciplines provided for applicants of master’sdegree ineducation: discipline teaching (Chinese), discipline teaching (English), and modern educational technology. As of September 2018, the school has had a total of 1820 full-time undergraduates and 92 full-time graduate students.


The school has 6 provincial-level research platforms, 1 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center, 4 municipal level scientific research platforms, and 5 school-level scientific research platforms. Chinese language and literature and pedagogy are key disciplines at the university level. In the past five years, the teachers here have hosted 2 national philosophical and social science fund projects and post-funded projects, 50 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, 93 municipal-level scientific research projects, 109 horizontal scientific research projects. All together the school attracted more than 10 million scientific research funds. We have published atotal of 541 papers with 128 on core journals; 36 academic works. We have won 119 research awards for humanities and social sciences at the municipal and department level.


In 2018, the college re-established the Humanities and Education Experimental Teaching Center. The Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center was approved in the same year. We have invested more than 12 million in the construction of the Maker Space, VR plus educational laboratory, simultaneous translation system, artificial intelligence education laboratory, internet plus education platform and other laboratories. In cooperation withShenzhen ShengsiEducation and Culture Co., Ltd. and other companies, the school established the Maker College (industrial college) to carry out collaborative talent-nurturing operations with these companies.


The college attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ innovative and entrepreneurial abilities. In the past three years, more than 80 students have won national awards and more than 800 wonprovincial and ministerial awards. A total of 65 students have been admitted to the graduate schools. Among them, the research report of  Wu Yiyan and others from Preschool Education Department won special prize of The 13thCollege Students “Challenge Cup” Competition at Guangdong Province level and the second prize of The 14th College Students “Challenge Cup” Competition at national level.The entrepreneurial project of  Wu Haofan and others from Department of  Educational Technologywon gold medal of 2016 “Creating Youth” College Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the highest-level honor won by students in our school. In June 2017, the article written by Tan Shuyin and other 5 students from Preschool Education Department wonthe first prize on Philosophy and Social Sciences in 14th Guangdong College Students “Challenge Cup” on Extracurricular Academic Science and  Technology Competition.
