FOSU Students Win the 2nd Prize in CHEMKATON Grand Challenge Chemistry

The international competition -“CHEMKATON Grand Challenge Chemistry” took place at AGH University of Krakow, Poland on October 1. Zheng Yiwang, Yao Lihao and Zhao Hao, the Year 2 postgraduates from School of Materials and Energy, won the second prize. President Luo Shaoming, as the team leader and academic mentor, provided guidance and support on the spot.

More than 100 teams from universities around the world participated in this year’s  competition, which lasted for couple of months. The preliminary round was carried out online. With Dr. Luo Jie’s close supervising, our students went through a series of such missions as task interpretation, literature review, raw material identification and survey result characterization. Their experiment outcome stood out at the preliminary stage and thus advanced to the finals with the fifth place.

 

The finals consisted of 10 teams from universities in Poland, China and Japan. The competition started at 10:00 o’clock local time on September 30. President Luo Shaoming was invited to press the start button together with the organiser. With 24 -hour-non-stop trials by means of strong will power, perfect teamwork, proficient skills and professional capacities, Zheng Yiwang, Yao Lihao and Zhao Hao won the prize with a total score by 3 experiment tasks, two ranking the first place and one seventh.
