The Science School is one of the major schools of Foshan University. It consists of two offices of a administrative affairs and a student affairs, three departments of Information Science & Mathematics, Optoelectronics & Physics, and Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, and three research institutes of Applied Mathematics, Optoelectrcnic Technology, and Materials & Fine Chemicals.

    There are six specialties for full-time four-year undergraduate students in the School. They are Mathematics & Applied Mathematics (for normal students), Information & Compute Science, Physics (for normal students), Optical Information Science & Technology, Chemistry (for normal students), and Chemistry of Materials. In addtion, there are five adult education specialties, which are Mathematics & Applied Mathematics (for normal students), Physics (for normal students), Chemistry (for normal students), Information & Compute Science, and Chemistry of Materials.

    The School has a Physics Experiment Teaching Center, a Chemistry Experiment Teaching Center, and a Mathematical Modeling and Emulation Laboratory. They offer excellent platforms for teaching, academic research, and technical development.

    Now, the School has 98 staffs, including 74 professional teachers, 17 laboratory staff, 12 administration staff. Among the teachers, there are 11 professors, 31 associate professor or other senior titles gainers, 23 teachers have been granted doctoral degree, 37 granted master degree, and 9 supervisors for post-graduates. The full-time students of 1059 are studying at the School.

    The School has made remarkable achievement in scientific research and application technology. It has undertaken many projects supported by National Natural Science Fund of China, Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Fund of China, Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, and Department of Science and Technology of Foshan City, respectively.

    The School focuses on the construction of subjects and also on cultivating students to have practical skills , comprehensive quality and creative abilities to adapt the developing modern world. The students at the School won many national and provincial awards over the past few years. In the Chinese Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, 2 teams and 7 teams respectively won the national first-places and second-places, 9 teams, 23 teams and 37 teams respectively won the provincial first-places, second-places and third-places. In the “Challenge Cup” National University Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Work Competition, they won one national third-places, three provincial first-places, three provincial second-places, six provincial third-places, respectively. In the Guangdong Physics Experiment Designing Competition, 3 teams, 2 teams and 3 teams won the second-places, third-places and winner awards, respectively. Over the past few years, 37 students have got the admissions from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, and some domestic and overseas universities for master’s program.

    The students realized the importance of training and improving their practical abilities, and they founded association of household electric appliances service, which now became the platform to enhance their comprehensive qualities and abilities. They often joined the young volunteer activities in holidays, and were granted the advanced group for social practice activities of Gungdong, among whom 12 got the advanced individual awards. The graduate from the School of science were well welcomed by their employers, and many of them became the leaders or Technical backbones.
